Missouri lawmaker says bill requiring AR-15s makes 'point on mandates'

In Missouri government arm you! FLICKR BRIAN BENNETT

A Missouri lawmaker who's introduced measures that would force adults to own handguns and young adults to own AR-15 semi-automatic rifles said he's trying to make the point that mandates are bad and doesn't actually want to require gun ownership.

Two days before introducing HB 1108, he introduced House Bill 1052, which creates the "McDaniel Second Amendment Act".

According to the proposed bill, any person who qualifies as a resident on August 28, 2019 who does not own an AR-15 would have a year to purchase one. "Any resident qualifies as a resident after August 28, 2019, and does not own an AR-15 shall purchase an AR-15 no later than one year after qualifying as a resident", language in the bill states.

The bills from McDaniel, a former deputy sheriff in Pemiscot County, would offer tax credits for people purchasing firearms.

Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan Testifies Before House Committee
Since then, Wells Fargo has struggled to fix its image as it's disclosed harming customers in other areas of the company. Sloan has spent years attempting to fix the bank's image, including making regular visits to Capitol Hill.

On Tuesday, a top aide to a Missouri state senator was arrested after a bar fight at Spectator's Bar and Grill in downtown Jefferson City, Missouri during which the loaded 9 mm Ruger handgun he was carrying fell to the floor of the restaurant.

No hearings on the bills are scheduled. Tax credits would be provided to defray the cost of the weapon.

'Republicans should regroup during the spring legislative break and come back ready to do real work that moves Missouri forward, ' the group added.

Sadly for felons, who would probably would love to get in on this new proposal, the bill does carve out an exception; it only requires compliance from those who are legally permitted to possess firearms. (McDaniels' office did not respond requests for comment on Thursday.) Still, we're guessing there are plenty of Missourah Republicans kicking themselves in the holster for not thinking of this first.
