Leo Varadkar says sexuality should not be an issue in judging politicians

Trump says Europe is 'being ripped apart' by Brexit

Theresa May has earned another critic in her handling of Brexit, as if she didn't have enough, with Donald Trump condemning the prime minister for refusing to listen to his ideas on how to negotiate with the European Union.

"I think what we offer is certainty that even though there may be changes in Government, even though we may go through different economic cycles of recession or growth, that is a certainty and I think that gives investors or potential investors that certainty you need if you're making the 20 or 30-year multibillion-euro investment in an economy".

"I hate to see it being, everything being ripped apart right now".

"I's a shame it has to be that way but I think we will stay right in our lane, ' said Mr Trump, who claimed 'I'm not sure anybody knows" what is happening.

Varadkar met the President at the White House as part of the of St Patrick's Day celebrations in Washington DC.

"I think they are probably going to have to do something because right now they are in the midst of a very short period of time - the end of the month - and they are not going to be able to do that".

"And people laughed when I predicted it, and they won by about two points", Trump said.

Following meetings with businesses leaders, community leaders and members of the Irish diaspora, Mr Varadkar addressed an audience on Wednesday as part of his engagements in the United States capital.

Today the Taoiseach will leave Washington and travel to Chicago to meet emigrant support groups.

The breakfast came after a meeting between Pence and the prime minister past year, where Varadkar "raised LGBT+ rights and equality issues", the UK's Independent reported.

"We shouldn't have a hard border or anything to obstruct the peace process".

Speaking at the Naval Observatory, Varadkar touched briefly on his sexual orientation.

'I think it could have been negotiated in a different manner, frankly.

"It's just a great place", he added.

His comments came as MPs are set to vote on whether to keep the United Kingdom in the European Union longer than planned after Prime Minister Theresa May's authority over Brexit suffered another major blow.

Mr Pence made the comments at a breakfast meeting with Mr Varadkar and his partner at the vice-president's residence in the capital.

Last night, he presented the US President, Donald Trump, with the traditional bowl of shamrock in a ceremony at the White House.
