Here’s what Bangladeshi cricketers says after escaping New Zealand Mosque Shooting

The Bangladesh cricket team were outside the Christchurch mosque where shots were fired on Friday

Postscript: India's cricketers were only recently in New Zealand, but didn't play in Christchurch.

Bangladesh have been touring New Zealand since last month.

"We are shocked and appalled, as I'm sure all New Zealanders", NZC chief David White told TVNZ.

"Both teams are deeply affected".

"I saw some people drop dead and some people were running away", he said.

At least 17 members of the Bangladesh cricket team drove up to Christchurch´s Masjid al Noor in a bus to join Friday prayers when a gunman stormed the building, in what is thought to be the worst act of terror directed against Muslims in a Western country.

Senior opener Tamim Iqbal said it was a frightening experience for the team. "We did not know what was going around and also how to get out of the scene", the team's performance analyst, Shrinivas Chandrasekaran, said.

The team have left Christchurch under armed guard today, escorted by police as they arrived at the city's airport.

Mario Villavarayen, a strength and conditioning coach with the team, told New Zealand media the players did not see the shooter but heard shots.

"They are at the ground, they are shaken but good".

Apparently, the Bangladesh players emerged from the team bus and started "running" towards the Hagley Park which is adjacent to the Oval.

According to "ESPNCricinfo", most of the coaching staff was in the team hotel at the time of the incident while head coach Steve Rhodes was at the ground.

ESPN Cricinfo reporter Mohammed Isam said members of the Bangladesh cricket team, who are due to play a Test match in Christchurch tomorrow escaped from the mosque.

"Police are aware there is extremely distressing footage relating to the incident in Christchurch circulating online", New Zealand police said in a Twitter post. Among the first to tweet from the location, Srinivas said all they saw was bloodshed.

He expected they would depart as soon as arrangements could be made. "They are in awful and severe mental (distress), they're not feeling well". The gunman, who called himself Brenton Tarrant on Twitter, entered the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch about 130pm on Friday during afternoon prayers and opened fire.

As with the Sri Lanka players in Lahore exactly a decade ago, the Mahmudullahs ducked till possibly a lull in the shooting brought the realisation that they could end up as sitting ducks in the team bus.

"He had a big gun and a lot of bullets and he came through and started shooting like everyone in the mosque, like everywhere, and they have to smash the door and the glass from the window and from the small door to try and get out". International Cricket Council chief executive David Richardson said it "fully supports the decision to cancel the test match".

Team manager Khaled Mashud said players and staff on the bus watched as blood-soaked victims staggered from the building.
