UK Parliament votes to delay Brexit but rejects second referendum

May and Corbyn come to blows ahead of Brexit no-deal debate

However, as things stand, the law has not been changed, as Wednesday and Thursday's votes were not legally binding.

According to the motion presented by the government, passed by 412 votes against 202, the deputies "accept that the government seeks an agreement with the European Union" for a postponement of the date of Brexit.

A majority of parliamentarians are reportedly in favor of extending Article 50, which would in normal times see the motion voted through.

Jeremy Corbyn is planning to push for a second referendum only after Theresa May's deal has been voted through by MPs, i can reveal. That's expected to happen though, since the European Union fears the United Kingdom crashing out of the bloc in a chaotic no-deal Brexit-still the default, by the way-perhaps as much as the United Kingdom itself.

BREXIT DELAYED? The government narrowly averted an attempt by lawmakers to seize the agenda on March 20 with the aim of forcing a discussion of alternative Brexit options - possibly limiting May's options when she takes her case for delay to the EU.

The Government won the vote on giving Parliament the opportunity to choose another Brexit approach by just two votes, with 16 Tories rebelling against their party.

Only 85 MPs voted in favour of the amendment and 334 voted against, with most lawmakers from the main opposition Labour Party abstaining from the vote.

Lawmakers were deciding Thursday whether to seek a delay to Brexit, now due to take place on March 29.

However, despite pushing for another referendum, the People's Vote campaign have decided that this is not the right time. If she looks like she can not ratify it, then a delay may give governments and businesses more time to prepare for a disruptive exit but leaders may also prefer to end doubts.

Democrat Beto O'Rourke Jumps Into 2020 US Presidential Race
Former Vice President Joe Biden has not announced his plans to run but he's expected to make that move in the coming weeks. President Donald Trump is welcoming Beto O'Rourke to the Democratic primary race with faint praise.

"For now markets remain convinced that Parliament will act to rule out exiting with no deal - and tomorrow's vote is likely to confirm this assumption", said Ranko Berich, head of market analysis at Monex Europe.

Despite the rebuffs and the political chaos that have weakened her authority, May has signaled she will try a third time to get backing for her agreement next week.

May has refused to abandon her unpopular deal, and is seeking to win over opponents in her own party and its Northern Irish political ally, the Democratic Unionist Party.

That gives her three days next week to overturn the 149-vote defeat she suffered on March 12.

The original government vote tonight was meant to give MPs a chance to delay Brexit - with some reports that Article 50 could be extended for as long as two years.

"We are now looking to the government to deliver a clear, legally certain, path forward to avoid no deal and to reach an agreement with the EU that delivers the conditions that support the continued competitiveness of our European operations", a spokesman for the Japanese auto manufacturer Honda said.

Officials and national leaders in the bloc are exasperated at the events in London.

"We talked about Brexit, something that's turning out to be a little more complex than they thought it would be", Trump said at an annual Capitol Hill luncheon for the Irish hosted by the House speaker.

May's opponents are simultaneously trying to grab the Brexit controls from her hands, although it's far from clear if Britain's divided Parliament can agree on a way forward.
