Samsung to hide the front facing camera behind screen

Samsung Intends to Hide Cameras Under Phone Displays

Samsung's most recent Galaxy S10 family of smartphones (read our review here), which were announced last month, fully embrace their punch hole "Infinity-O" display.

Galaxy S10 is the first Samsung model that comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the glass, technically making it possible for you to unlock the device by simply touching the display in the correct place.

Samsung's latest phones have minimised the so-called "notch" found in iPhones and other modern Android devices by cutting a hole for the camera into the screen.

It's not possible to make a smartphone today that integrated all of the necessary camera equipment behind the screen but according to Yang Byung-duk, vice president of Samsung's Mobile Communication R&D Group Display, "in the next 1-2 years, the technology can move forward to the point where the camera hole will be invisible". There was a time when camera phone was just fiction and we used to hear that soon we will be able to see people on mobile who would be sitting at far distances.

Tesla Model Y: Elon Musk unveils long-awaited £30,000 electric SUV
Just as Model 3 , the Model Y will be offered in Standard Range and Long Range versions, with Dual Motor and Performance variants. Tesla Inc's Model Y electric sports utility vehicle is pictured in this undated handout photo released on March 14, 2019.

By moving the camera under the screen, it would remove the need for any kind of cutout on the front display.

The Galaxy S10 hasn't even been out a week yet, but Samsung is already looking toward the future.

Samsung has proven in the past that it's capable of releasing ambitious phone designs.

Yang said the company is also considering development of Crystal Sound OLED display, which can make the screen double as a speaker. The Galaxy A7 (2018) was launched with Android 8.0 Oreo along with Samsung Experience UX on top past year, though it received a beta update based on Android Pie-powered One UI last month.
