Whoopi Goldberg returns to 'The View' after near-death illness

ABCWhoopi Goldberg makes a surprise visit to the set of ABC's

"So this is my first foray out", said Goldberg, who's been off the show for a month because of a bad case of pneumonia. "I'm not there yet, I know that".

"They said, 'well, your insurance has said no to this.' I said, 'well, can I lease it, can I rent it?'" she went on. "So this is my beginning". In a video shared by The View's official Twitter account, Joy Behar was in the middle of explaining that Goldberg was feeling better and hoped to be back next week when the audience erupted into cheers and applause.

It's great to see that she is doing so much better! "Over the next week and a half I will start to be here more often. I really kind of missed y'all!"

Goldberg, who is still recovering, says she spent three weeks in the hospital. "There's death, and here's me", she said. She encouraged people to take their health issues seriously before they spiral into something which could be fatal. And so they had to pump a lot of stuff out of me.

Then she got serious.

"You think you can push through because you have a little cold, and you think because you've healed before something insane can't happen".

"You must really take care of yourself", she said. "This is us", Goldberg said.

Manufacturers of mobile devices got an especially sweet deal, according to internal Facebook documents seen by the Times . Facebook has said the partnerships were well-publicized at the time , and that it has since shut a lot of them down.

Behar previously told viewers about Goldberg's diagnosis during the February 20 broadcast while simultaneously debunking rumors that Goldberg would be the surprise host of the Oscars, which were just a few days away at that point. Tell me where you're putting my money. McCain said. "You can not leave this show". So Goldberg asked if she could lease it.

"The scariest moment was hearing my doctor say to me, 'You do realize how close to death you were?'" she said. "I thought it was so amusing". "I am here. I am up and moving around - not as fast as I'd like to be, but I am okay". "I am OK. I'm not dead".

"You can never leave me again", co-host Meghan McCain said when Goldberg first appeared. "Good news: I didn't". Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying.

"Ladies, I can not wait to see y'all", she added, addressing her fellow panelists. "To everybody, see you soon".

Last week, Goldberg broke her silence about why she's been gone for so long in a video message to fans. As for now, "my immune system is challenged", she said. "She's getting there, she's on the mend".

"'I have to advocate for myself because clearly you are taking your cue from somebody who doesn't know what the doctor is telling me to do, '" Goldberg said she told the advocate.

Behar said the hosts had no idea Whoopi was showing up, adding, "We are shocked, personally".
