House votes to release Robert Mueller's Russian Federation report

Mueller ‘Pitbull’ Andrew Weissmann Leaving Russia Probe

The House voted overwhelmingly and in bipartisan fashion Thursday (March 14) to urge the Justice Department to publicly release the entirety of special counsel Robert Mueller's report into Russian interference in the 2016 election, once completed.

The Senate is not obligated to vote on this or any similar resolution, and under Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, is all but certain to not.

All told, 420 members - 230 Democrats and 190 Republicans - voted for the resolution. The resolution also calls for the full report to be released to Congress.

The vote came as expectations rise that Mueller is near to bringing to a close a almost two-year-old investigation that has focused on whether Trump's 2016 campaign colluded with the Russians. The rules require him to notify the top Democrats and Republicans on the House and Senate judiciary committees after Mueller completes his probe.

The resolution, introduced last week by the heads of six House oversight committees that are investigating Trump, calls on Barr to make public everything in the Mueller report that is not expressly prohibited by law and to provide the entire document to Congress. Will Hurd, R-Texas, a member of the Intelligence Committee and former CIA officer. Trump has repeatedly described the investigation as a "witch hunt".

If a full report isn't released, House Democrats have made it clear they will do whatever they can to get hold of it. Nadler has said he would subpoena the final report and invite - or even subpoena - Mueller to talk about it.

Seoul: North Korea Launch Would be Catastrophe for Diplomacy
With North Korea still under economic sanctions, "the leverage is on our side right now, and not on North Korea's". Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Trump had raised the issue of kidnapped Japanese citizens in his summit with Kim.

Four Republicans voted present: Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar and Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie.

Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and leaders of several House committees, have vowed to sue the Trump administration for Mueller's report and evidence if the Justice Department refuses to turn it over to Congress.

"[Barr] understands the questions and turmoil this has caused", Collins said.

"During his confirmation, Attorney General Barr said he wants to be transparent with Congress and the public, consistent with the rules and the law".

Barr, a Trump nominee who took over the Justice Department last month, replaced Jeff Sessions, who the president ousted in November after long complaining that the former senator had recused himself in 2017 from overseeing the Russian Federation probe. "The American people need to know as much as they can and see as much as they can". "It's like he was fishing for talent in the Hillary Clinton fan club aquarium".

There have been numerous reports that Mueller's investigation is winding down.
