Google Removed 2.3 Billion Bad Ads Last Year

"In aggregate, 3ve produced more than 10,000 counterfeit domains, and generated over 3 billion daily bid requests at its peak", the blog reads.

Google added new policies in 2017, and highlighted its efforts in this year's report, noting it took down ads on roughly 1.2 million pages, 22,000 apps and 15,000 sites for violating policies around misrepresentative, hateful or low-quality content.

Usually, the number of fraudulent ads (those that advertise fraudulent activity, spread malware or something similar) that Google blocks on a yearly basis rises, year-over-year.

In 2018 they terminated the accounts of one million bad advertiser accounts, which is twice as many as in 2017.

Cohen Lawyer Sends Letter to Congress Clarifying Pardon Talk
Monico added that Trump, though, "publicly dangled the possibility of pardons when commenting about ongoing investigations". Monico explained, though, that Cohen's testimony " could have been clearer and more complete".

Google took down 2.3bn ads across its network previous year, almost one billion fewer "bad ads" it had to remove in 2017.

It banned bail bond ads effective July 2018 and restricted ads for addiction treatment services to those certified by LegitScript (after suspending them in 2017). That's more than 6 million bad ads removed every day.

Google also kicked around 734,000 publishers and app developers off its ad network and completely removed ads from nearly 1.5m apps. Google says the decision was made due to evidence that these providers take advantage of vulnerable communities. It also removed around 58.8 million advertisements for phishing scams from its network. For-profit bail bond services, addiction treatment services, third-party tech support, ticket resellers, cryptocurrency and some local services such as garage door fix topped the list of sectors Google focused on in 2018.

The company also announced a for its Google Ads program in order to help advertisers create ads that comply with its advertising policies. The company said it was able to "take more granular action" by cutting ads from almost 28m pages that violated its publisher policies. Google's course of action to deter bad advertisers and publishers from its networks is fairly simple: remove their economic incentives.
