More than 1,000 climate rallies for Friday it is planned

Swedish 16-year-old environmental activist Greta Thunberg attends a protest next to Sweden's parliament in Stockholm

Students all over the world have followed suit, including Neupert, Malterre and their friends, who have made the pilgrimage to the Idaho Statehouse steps with cardboard signs every Friday for the last three weeks.

On Friday, March 15, in almost 1,000 cities and towns in at least 82 countries around the world, young people are planning a school strike.

"The UK has been relatively shielded from the effects of the crisis so far, but those least responsible for contributing to climate change are already suffering the worst effects".

Activists in the USA are making similar demands that are found in Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal: a swift transition to 100 percent renewable energy, a complete abolition of fossil fuels and other environmental mandates.

The students say that Finland's climate change targets are unambitious, and have been staging smaller protests outside Parliament since August 2018.

The group is also demanding the creation of a committee-with subpoena power-to "oversee implementation of the Green New Deal", and the declaration of a National Emergency on Climate Change.

She says the science on climate change is clear, and the time for action is now. "It makes the adults face the issue and hopefully prompt them to do something about it", said Kate, whose parents are supportive of her plans to strike.

The global climate strike on March 15 is an offshoot of the #FridaysForFuture movement, which has been active around the world for months. The world's children are reminding us that we have a big debt to repay and an earth to fix and restore.

It is evident amongst my peers at school that we feel let down by our current government.

"So we want to make sure people know that it's something we need to be taking seriously now".

"They need our support, but more than that, they need all of us to act". Coordinated protests have taken place in Australia, Switzerland, Germany, the US, Canada and Japan.

"I think [the strike] is important because one, they're using their voice and two, they're putting pressure on trying to get something done, and hopefully they can get something done".

Living in Warringah and being passionate about reversing climate change has always been hard due to our current member consistently denying government policy on the issue.

Last month, more than 10,000 pupils across the United Kingdom sought their parents' permission and left classrooms in Glasgow, Leeds, Exeter, London and Brighton to join UK-wide climate strikes.

Richard Andrews, who shared the poster online, said: "The young people of the world are in danger of having a future blighted by starvation, droughts and war and possibly extinction of the human race".
