Mauricio Pochettino's half-time video session prepared Tottenham for second-half blitz

Mauricio Pochettino saluted his talismanic goalscorer Son Heung-min after the Tottenham forward helped to move the team to within touching distance of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Son volleyed Spurs into a 47th-minute lead against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley in the first leg of the last-16 tie before late goals from the stop-gap left wing-back, Jan Vertonghen, and the substitute Fernando Llorente sealed a memorable 3-0 win.

The win was Spurs' fourth in a row in all competitions, all of which have been achieved without injured duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli. He's a player that provides the team with a lot of very good things.

"Today it's 3-0 and maybe everyone says, "Oh, fantastic decision", or maybe if it's a different result I'm the worst coach in the world", he said.

"Also we were a bit lucky because it was a massive confidence boost when Sonny scored - it made the team play much better".

Ajax fans keep Real Madrid awake with hotel fireworks display
But it started confidently and Tadic almost gave Ajax the lead, his 26th-minute shot hitting the post after beating Courtois. We did, but you have to be more ruthless. "They are the future of Real Madrid ", Solari said.

"I'm so happy for him, he was fantastic today", said the Argentine of his young countryman. "What they are doing this season is wonderful". After a testing first half, the Belgian transformed into one of their biggest attacking threats after the break, providing a sumptuous ball for Son's goal and continuing to send in terrific crosses as the second half progressed - and to top it all off, Vertonghen got on the scoresheet with under 10 minutes to go. We didn't feel what we planned to play. When you are in front of a team like Borussia Dortmund, you have to show respect.

"It's a massive victory and the players deserve all the credit because they were fantastic".

Spurs will now travel to Dortmund for the return leg in a strong position, but Pochettino added: "For me, it's only the first leg and first half of the tie".

"Always when you play in this type of competition against a very good side like Dortmund it is hard", said the Argentine.

"Of course we are happy now because it's a good result but there's still a lot of work to do".
