Illegal Immigrant Confesses to Killing Woman Found in Suitcase

Ex-boyfriend of suitcase murder victim busted after video catches him using dead woman's ATM card — cops

Reyes, from New Rochelle, New York, was found in a suitcase on February 5 by the side of Glenville Road in Greenwich, Connecticut, a mile from Merritt Parkway.

Reyes, of New Rochelle, New York, was reported missing when she did not show up for work January 30 at a bookstore.

The arrest of da Silva may not come as a surprise to law enforcement experts who have predicted that Reyes' killer was known to her.

Reyes' body was found inside a suitcase last Tuesday along a road in Greenwich, Connecticut, according to police, who said her hands and feet were bound.

Based on all of the above evidence, investigators brought Da Silva in for an interview at the New Rochelle Police Department where he waived his Miranda rights and told his story, adding that once he placed her inside the vehicle, he drove for some time before placing the suitcase in the forest, where it was later found by Greenwich public works employees who unzipped it and found Reyes inside, the complaint said.

"We are confident that the pursuit of justice for Valerie will be successful and we continue to work with the family to provide closure to this tragedy, " Berry said in a written statement.

Greenwich Police Captain Robert Berry issued a statement last week relaying the community's "heartfelt condolences".

CBS New York reports that the suspect is originally from Venezuela but had remained in the USA illegally since the expiration of his visa. I kept praying that she would tell me, she would give me hints, a name or something ... "I'm paranoid. I'm getting anxiety attacks".

"I asked her, 'Why do you feel this way?"

Reyes, a 2012 graduate of New Rochelle High School, worked at Barnes & Noble in Eastchester.

Several items were missing from Reyes' apartment, police said.

Her ex-boyfriend had just moved out, the Journal News reported.

On Tuesday, DeSilva appeared before a federal magistrate in White Plains who ordered him held without bail, ABC News reports.

"What zeroed us in, and the investigators from New Rochelle, was from the timeline we established, we believe she was already deceased and we saw continued ATM [bank] activity", Greenwich Police Captain Robert Berry told reporters Tuesday, the Greenwich Free Press reported.

The chief medical examiner's office has completed an autopsy but has not yet released the cause and manner of Reyes' death.

Sanchez said that she tried to pinpoint the source of her daughter's anxiety but failed. "And she said, 'No, '" Sanchez said.
