Pot-smoking tipster finds tiger in abandoned house, police say

A tiger was being kept in a cage in an abandoned house in Texas USA

Houston animal control officials would like to know who owns a "perfectly delightful" tiger that turned up unexpectedly in a little used house in a residential part of the city.

Officials say it could easily open and the tiger could have gone on a "rampage".

Police said the caged female tiger was found at a home in the 9400 block of East Avenue J.

A BARC Animal Shelter crew responded to the home with the Houston police's Major Offender Animal Cruelty Unit and tranquilized the tiger, nicknamed "Tyson" by rescuers after the famous scene in The Hangover featuring boxer Mike Tyson's tiger.

A person who went into an abandoned house so they could smoke cannabis found a neglected tiger inside.

The garage had been secured with a screwdriver and nylon strap, according to the police. "So it was important that we get it out of that situation", Lara Cottingham, with the city of Houston, said.

Phil Mickelson leads heading into Monday finish at Pebble Beach
He finished three shots behind Graeme McDowell in 2010, the last US Open at Pebble. "I'll deal with that in six months". Mickelson argued that he could "see just fine" on Sunday evening, moments after sunset with two holes remaining.

The tiger was taken to a BARC shelter where it will remain until a long-term solution is found.

No one was home when the tiger was found.

Some tigers are smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico, and there are small pockets of breeding facilities across the country.

"There's an incredible network all across the United States and here in Houston and here in Texas".

A stoner couple entered an abandoned house in Houston to get high, but almost became prey when they stumbled across a live tiger. It has two Malayan tigers and "does not have capacity to receive additional tigers", a statement read.
