The DOCTOR WHO Holiday Special Will Now Air on New Year's Day

Confronting the demons ‘Doctor Who’ travels to Partition-era India in latest episode

This won't be the first time the beloved sci-fi series has played on New Year's. America announced late Wednesday that it's eschewing Doctor Who's customary Christmas Day special in favor of one airing on New Year's Day.

The network is airing a Christmas special marathon starting on December 24th and going into Christmas day.

The new Who has also been a ratings success, with critics and audiences alike enjoying the hopeful tone, the lush cinematography, and Whittaker's charismatic turn as the Doctor.

It's not the first time in modern Who that the show has aired over the New Year period. But it's understandable that many expected they'd want to maintain the momentum built up by Jodie Whittaker's successful relaunch by echoing the early tenures of David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi and having a new run of stories around a year after their debut series. As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth's history.

The Doctor Who festive special will be doing a bit of time travelling from Christmas Day to New Year's Day for the first time in 13 years.

British PM battles for survival over Brexit deal
In his resignation letter, Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab said that May's plan threatened the integrity of the UK. Her job had been to reach a deal with the European Union and bring it back to the House of Commons for a vote.

The standalone hour finds Jodie Whittaker's Doctor facing "a terrifying alien threat", per showrunner Chris Chibnall, who penned the seasonal outing.

What we do know for certain is that Jodie Whittaker will conclude her first completed season as the Thirteenth Doctor on December 9 in a Chibnall-directed episode titled "The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos".

The confirmation that Doctor Who is to move from its traditional Christmas Day slot is in some ways surprising.

The Christmas special has been a part of the BBC's festive telly since it was rebooted in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role. Graham (Bradley Walsh), and Yaz (Mandip Gill) be able to overcome this threat to planet Earth?
