Banksy: Shredding was supposed to have been complete

Banksy posts video saying incomplete shredding was a malfunction

The rest of the clip shows Banksy - or whoever pushed the button to set off the machine - at Sothebys on auction day.

Earlier this month, "Girl With Balloon" sold for a whopping $1.4 million during a record-breaking auction at Sotheby's in London.

Banksy makes the reveal in a video posted on Wednesday, explaining that in practice runs before the auction, the entire painting was shredded to bits, leaving an empty frame and a pile of scraps.

The pic with a snapchat eye-emoji on it shows a man in a white scarf, wearing some kind of a wrist band or watch, hat and black glasses with some device on him allegedly in the same Sotheby's room where the shredding took place.

The British artist has done more to cultivate his mystique in the two weeks since a print of one of his best known works, "Girl With a Balloon", slid half way through a shredder embedded in its frame moments after it was sold at Sotheby's in London. Now, an anonymous European collector is a proud owner of Banksy's shreds, which the buyer hopes might cost even more after the partial destruction.

Twitter reacts to Jose Mourinho's dramatic scuffle with Chelsea coach
In a match which epitomised the rich history of the Premier League's drama, Manchester United came away with just one point. The reaction from the fans is not up to me. "After that his assistant came to me in Sarri's office and apologised to me".

The secretive street artist posted a video to his website on Tuesday night which showed the prank unfold at a Sotheby's sale on October 5.

Part of the piece remained within the frame and was not destroyed. "In case it was ever put up for auction".

He later shared footage of shocked auction attendees reacting to the stunt alongside the Picasso quote, "The urge to destroy is also a creative urge". Our obsession with the creator and not that quality of what has been created, has given Banksy a Midas touch; rather than being assigned a new price depending on the quality of the artwork, it seems the worth of anything he touches immediately increases.

The woman who bought the piece at the auction went ahead with the purchase.
