Trump offers ‘rogue killers’ theory, sends Pompeo to Saudi Arabia

The report came hours after Turkish investigators entered the consulate for what officials called a joint inspection of the building where Khashoggi was last seen alive, entering the diplomatic post, almost two weeks ago.

Before day's end, media reports citing anonymous sources began to appear saying Saudi officials were considering issuing a public statement that would indeed say that Khashoggi died in Saudi custody, a effect of an interrogation gone wrong.

One CNN source cautioned that the report was still being prepared and could change, while another said it will likely conclude the operation took place without clearance, and that those involved will be held responsible.

UNITED is the target for investment from Saudi Arabia and a potential takeover.

It is unclear if that is still under consideration, according to the source.

"By leaking information on the case in a controlled manner, Turks have signaled their willingness to confront the Saudis if they have enough worldwide support, particularly from the West", said Gonul Tol, director of the Middle East Institute's Center for Turkish Studies in Washington.

The prince, ambitious, aggressive and just 33 in a kingdom long ruled by aging monarchs, has considerable weight in Saudi government actions.

A section on the glitzy event website with pictures of the speakers has now been taken down. CNN was among several media organizations to withdraw.

Derek Anderson likely to start for Bills with Josh Allen out
The injury leaves the Bills (2-4) turning to the 35-year-old Anderson, preparing to make his first start in almost two seasons. He last served a backup role in Carolina to Cam Newton for the first seven years of Newton's career.

On Monday, a source familiar with the matter said Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman and BlackRock Chief Executive Larry Fink were pulling out of the summit.

The interrogation was reportedly supposed to lead to Khashoggi's abduction from Turkey.

The Washington Post reported in recent days that the Turkish government informed USA officials it was in possession of video recordings that prove Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate, but have not made them public. Turkey had publicly scolded the Saudi government for refusing repeated requests to search the consulate, where Turkish investigators believe Khashoggi was killed and dismembered by Saudi agents.

Trump said Monday that he had spoken to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for about 20 minutes that morning and that he has denied any knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance. There's something - you'll be surprised to hear me say that.

Trump said he could not confirm such reports. "We're going to get to the bottom of it and there will be severe punishment".

"I am immediately sending our Secretary of State (Mike Pompeo) to meet with King!" He said in Georgia that Pompeo may add a stop in Turkey. "So we'll see what happens".

"They're finally unleashing Trump to be this master of all media", Politico's Daniel Lippman said Monday in an interview on Cheddar. "It is a bad situation".

But concern over the disappearance has seen media organisations and a growing number of attendees pull out of a "Davos in the Desert" investment conference set for October 23-25, which has become the biggest show for investors to promote Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's reform vision.
