Migrant caravan organizer to be deported to Honduras from Guatemala

'March of the Migrants' draws over 1000 Hondurans to US border

Town residents brought the migrants bread, beans, cheese and coffee.

Keilin Umana, who is two months pregnant, said she and her unborn child were threatened with death.

President Donald Trump is threatening to cut aid to Honduras if it doesn't stop a group of migrants hoping to reach the USA border, and Mexican officials are warning they will strictly enforce their entry requirements if the migrants reach their border. Estimates of their numbers ranged up to 3,000.

The caravan began as about 160 people who first gathered early Friday to depart from San Pedro Sula, one of Honduras' most risky places, figuring that traveling as a group would make them less vulnerable to robbery, assault and other dangers common on the migratory path through Central America and Mexico. A Guatemalan priest estimated more than 2,000 were fed at three shelters run by the Roman Catholic Church in Esquipulas, the group's first stop in Guatemala.

Three weeks before midterm elections in the United States, the caravan elicited a tough response from Trump.

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened in April to withdraw foreign aid from Honduras and countries that allowed transit for a similar caravan that set out from the Central American country earlier this year.

Vice President Mike Pence followed up with his own tweet to explain the actions that were being taken to encourage Honduras to prevent the migrant caravan.

"There are sectors that want to destabilize the country, but we will be decisive and we will not allow it", Hernandez told reporters.

There is a legal obligation to hear asylum claims from migrants who have arrived in the United States if they say they fear violence in their home countries. Hondurans need visas to visit Mexico in most cases.

The migrants said they were fleeing violence and poverty in Honduras.

Rihanna Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show - The Controversial Reason Why
It's since sparked a national discussion about patriotism and has drawn the ire of President Trump. Next year's Super Bowl will take place in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 3, 2019.

Carlos Reyes, 20, said he was attacked a week ago for being gay and dressing in women's clothing.

"Some men were going to kill me".

The migrants are well aware of those dangers and hope traveling en masse will limit the risks.

An official with Guatemala's migration agency confirms the detention of ex-legislator Bartolo Fuentes along with two other people, Wilmer Simon Gomez and Michael Fajardo.

Honduras did not immediately respond publicly to the posts and it was unclear what they could do to stop the caravan now that it was outside of the country.

The Honduran security ministry indicated that Fuentes was detained for violating Guatemala's immigration rules.

Previously, Guatemala's Institute of Migration had said the country "does not promote or endorse irregular migration in any forms" and said the caravan was not respecting the nation's migration laws.

"We are seriously concerned about the caravan of migrants traveling north from Honduras, with false promises of entering the United States by those who seek to exploit their compatriots", the U.S. Embassy in Honduras said in a statement on October 14.

Widespread violence and poverty prompt thousands of Central Americans, mainly from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, to make the arduous journey north toward Mexico and the United States in search of a better life.

Roberto Castro, one of the travelers in the caravan, said via telephone that he is a 26-year-old bus driver and construction worker, when there is work.
