League to Offer HS Basketball Players $150k to Skip College

The G League will offer a paid alternative to college basketball for those seeking NBA

The NBA has unveiled a new career path for elite, young basketball stars that could persuade them not to play in Australia's NBL, Europe or with a United States college team. Additionally, the National Basketball Association G League will further enhance player experience through existing partner relationships and National Basketball Association player development programming.

The NBA G League is prepared to offer an alternative path for elite prospects who are not draft eligible and star high school basketball players who would likely be "one-and-done" players in the NCAA ranks.

The contracts, which will be available from next season, offer year-round training on and off the court with the opportunity to receive scholarships to higher education programmes should they decide to return to school after a basketball career.

While changes to the NBA's age limit likely won't be implemented until the 2022 draft, the league considers this an immediate response.

Austria says European Union will find a way to ensure a Brexit deal
No new proposals are expected to be tabled or discussed this week and discussions are likely to continue at official level only. Jeremy Hunt said Monday that "there are one or two very hard outstanding issues, but I think we can get there".

"We appreciate the NBA's decision to provide additional opportunities for those who would like to pursue their dream of playing professionally, Emmert said in statement". How many players will the G League look to include in its first iteration of this venture? Will this venture be open to global players as well, including Canadians or Australians who often matriculate to the NBA via American high schools or college basketball?

Athletes will be restricted to playing only one season on a G League Select Contract, after which point they will become automatically eligible for that year's National Basketball Association draft.

WNBA players can opt out of their current collective bargaining agreement with the league by October 31. The opportunity for said prospects will include "Select Contracts" worth $125,000 beginning in the summer of 2019 to elite prospects who are at least 18-years-old but not yet draft eligible.

The G-League is obviously a lesser league than the NCAA as far as lifestyle goes. These offerings are slated to include basketball workouts during the summer months through existing NBA infrastructure like NBA Summer League and NBA Academies, year-round education programs created to increase players' ability to personally and professionally manage their careers, and a scholarship program for athletes who want to pursue higher education after their playing days.
