Sam Querrey, Taylor Fritz both win in straight sets at Shanghai Masters

Nick Kyrgios reacts after a point against Bradley Klahn. More

Nick Kyrgios of Australia reacts after a point against Bradley Klahn of the United States during their men's single round of 64 match at the Shanghai Masters October 8, 2018.

"We don't really know and I don't think he really knows exactly what his potential is.

I don't want to talk about that any more".

Kyrgios' latest round of unsportsmanlike antics took place Monday night at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, where the world's number 38 player suffered a stunning defeat to his 104th-ranked American opponent, Bradley Kahn.

Last year, having earlier received a warning for smashing two balls out of court in frustration, he stormed off midway through his first-round match against Steve Johnson.

Kyrgios reacted by saying "I don't care" and told the official "you have no right to tell me that it's poor".

Coric will now face American qualifier Bradley Klahn, who sprung a surprise as he defeated Australia's Kyrgios 4-6 6-4 6-3.

The Shanghai Masters has been a particularly unhappy hunting ground for Kyrgios over the years, with this being the fourth year in a row that he has stoked controversy at the competition.

Federer added: "He can win bigger tournaments and do all these things".

But a sloppy service game down 4-5 cost Kyrgios the set and he unravelled from there amidst a stretch of five lost games.

A 22-time grand slam champion - in double and mixed doubles - and former Davis Cup coach, Woodbridge said Kyrgios should next year try to focus his energies on the majors.

"Nick plays his best tennis when he's fresh, when he's enjoying himself and he's engaged", said Woodbridge, according to the Melbourne Age. Scheduling is huge for him.

Later Kyrgios said to Dumusois: "You know I literally could just go to the ATP office after this and say I felt put down from your comment and you'd be in trouble, right?"

He said Kyrgios looked "tired and jaded" at this stage in the season and that brings out the worst in him. "You have no right to tell me that it's poor".
