PSN Name Changes Confirmed, Coming to PlayStation Preview Program Soon

Playstation Logo

According to a recent blog post over on the official PlayStation website, "We're happy to announce that we will soon begin testing the long-awaited feature that will allow users to change their PlayStation Network Online ID from their PlayStation 4 system". Some PlayStation 4 games released before April 1, 2018 and all published after that date will support the feature. You will be able to revert to your original PSN ID for free once at any time to resolve these issues.

When an online ID is changed, the option to display the previous ID alongside the new one will be available to help your friends recognize you. However, unlike the previous setting, this option is only available while applying the change and not after. However, while the first change is free, further changes will cost £7.99 / $9.99.

Now, at long last, PSN will fall in line with virtually every other online service you can think of and let users change their name. Numerous most popular PS4 games that were released prior to that date will work as well, but beware, several games will not have the PSN ID change function. This preview program will end in November 2018. The new feature comes with a handful of caveats (especially in its preview version), so you'll have to judge for yourself whether finally cutting ties with your embarrassing old persona is worth the potential hassle. Now, you won't be able to change your name quite yet, but rest assured that it's coming. During the preview program you can revert back if the errors are so busted that you can't use programs correctly.

Nikki Haley Resigns As Donald Trump's UN Ambassador
The hawkish Foundation for Defense of Democracies, the administration's go-to shop on Iran, cheered her as a latter-day Jeane J. No reason for the resignation was immediately given. "Jared is such a hidden genius that no one understands".

All games released after April 1, 2018 will be compatible, while developers have been hard at work to get the feature working on games released prior.

If you are not one of the lucky test users, you will need to wait until 2019, when a full roll out is planned for the feature.
