Microsoft is now testing an updated version of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update that promises to fix a serious issue that led the company to pull the update following its public release last week. The company has released Windows 10 cumulative updates to several previous versions of the operating system, including the April 2018 Update, Fall Creators Update, Creators Update, and the Anniversary Update.

We have fully investigated all reports of data loss, identified and fixed all known issues in the update, and conducted internal validation.

As Microsoft's John Cable explains in a post on Microsoft's Windows Blog, the problem was with the "Known Folder Redirection" feature.

"Prior to re-releasing the October 2018 Update our engineering investigation determined that a very small number of users lost files during the October 2018 Update", stated the Microsoft announcement.

Microsoft halted the Windows 10 October 2018 Update because it was deleting some people's files.

Planet has only until 2030 to stem catastrophic climate change, experts warn
Scientists consider that temperature to be a tipping point at which many severe effects of global warming will be realized. It also objected to references to the emissions being reduced in keeping with the principle of equity and fairness.

You can install the relevant Windows 10 cumulative update on your machines through Settings Update and Security Windows Update Check for updates. Other folders you can move include Desktop, Documents, Pictures, and Videos. So, to solve the problem, Microsoft introduced code that would delete those old, empty folders.

We will carefully study the results, feedback, and diagnostic data from our Insiders before taking additional steps towards re-releasing more broadly.

Microsoft is also updating the Feedback app in Windows 10 to enable a new feature that would allow Insiders to provide an indication of impact and severity when filing feedback.

Users who are affected by the issue are missing files and folders in their "Documents" folder.
