#MeToo: Bollywood's 'most sanskari actor' Alok Nath accused of brutal rape

Alok Nath

Earlier, Vinta Nanda, a veteran writer-producer of the popular show "Tara" fame, had accused actor Alok Nath, known for his "sanskaari" on-screen image - of sexually violating her nearly two decades ago.

Following the alleged misconduct Alok Nath was taken off the show and things continued, wrote the writer.

The Cine and TV Artists Association on Tuesday said it would send Nath a show-cause notice after writer-producer Vinta Nanda accused him of raping her a couple of times, nearly 19 years ago.

In addition, actor Sushant Singh, who is the general secretary of Cine & TV Artists Association (CINTAA) has ensured full support to Vinta Nanda.

Vinta Nanda and Alok Nath have been trending after her revelation on Facebook. As the evening flowed, my drinks were mixed and I began to feel odd. In a way, it was me who made her what she is. One of the recent names, which came out, much to the shock of many, was that of actor Alok Nath, the actor known for his on-screen "sanskaari" image in Indian television and films. I trusted him and sat in his auto. "I did not plan anything", she added. "When I woke up the next afternoon, I was in pain".

On a day Nath's wife was out of town, Nanda says she was invited for a party at his house where she says her drinks "were mixed" and she began to feel "strange".

She further said that when she told some of her friends about the incident, she was asked to forget about it.

He would mess with her on the sets and everyone would be silent.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is a friend of writer-producer Vinta Nanda, in an interview to news agency IANS, said that he is "quite devastated" to learn about her harrowing account of being raped and violated 19 years ago. "It was after this that I quit", she wrote.

"I was completely shattered by then", Nanda said. He also went on to say that Vinta is saying all this because of the #Metoo wave going on in the industry now. The actor allegedly raped Nanda after she was drunk at a party. She went to describe him harassing her lead actress, a claim that's been now backed by Navneet Nishan, who played the lead role in Tara.

They were planning on writing him off the show and Alok got wind of it. Alok had used his influence to harm Vinta's career as well, she further adds.

In her Facebook post, she recollects an "alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious" television star. She called him out for his alcoholism on sets amongst other things.

"We needed one last shot between them and soon after it had been taken we had planned to let him know that we didn't want to work with him any longer", Nanda wrote. "It is high time". My lead actress slapped him.

Consequently, Nath was dropped from the show.

"What followed because of my silence was even worse".

Nanda received support on social media after the post was circulated.
