Google is expanding Emergency Location Service in Android to the US

Google announced ELS in Android back in 2016, explaining that it offers a faster, more accurate location to emergency communications centers when an Android user makes an E911 call.

According to the report, T-Mobile has been working with Google on the issue for about four years and the duo partnered with RapidSOS, just as Apple did in June, to help them send location information quickly to call centers.

The service uses GPS, Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and sensors to identify your location, both indoors and out, with the same accuracy as Google Maps.

The search giant and USA telecom have partnered with emergency technology providers RapidSOS and West to send emergency call centres information from Android's Emergency Location Services (ELS).

With the recent announcement, 911 call operators can easily pinpoint the location of Android phone users. Apple's new iOS 12 features a similar location-sharing feature for 911 calls.

India cancels talks with Pakistan over 'brutal killings'
The Permanent Missions of both India and Pakistan will together work out the details. India has not been holding official talks with Pakistan following the attacks.

Emergency operators in the USA will soon be able to get more-accurate information about the location of Android phones used to dial 911. In each case, calling 9-1-1 from your smartphone will make it possible for emergency services to get your location through ELS directly, hopefully making the process a bit smoother.

Google has already rolled out ELS support in 14 other countries, so it has a few real-life examples where it's helped.

The search giant isn't the only one offering mobile device location data to 911 responders. If your carrier supports the system then your location will automatically be forwarded directly to emergency services when you call them. This enhanced location service already runs on 99 per cent of Android devices and now it will cut down the time it takes first responders to reach those who have called 911 in the US. The system is now available in 14 countries around the world, providing emergency centers with location data on more than 140,000 emergency calls per day.

Any emergency communications center can access data from the NG911 Clearinghouse today with RapidLite, a 100% free, secure, web-based tool for public safety agencies.

For T-Mobile, the integration with ELS will mean more accurate data, on top of its existing ways to share locations with emergency centres.
