The interrogation was conducted by Kottayam SP Harisankar and DySP Vaikom K Subhash. The interview lasted till the evening and will continue for a second day on September 20. Earlier, on August 18, he was interrogated by the police in Jalandhar. The sister is seen said, "Why did she [victim] meet the Bishop alone?"

The Allahabad High Court had severely reprimanded the Uttar Pradesh government and Uttar Pradesh Police for delaying the arrest of Unnao BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is an accused in the Unnao rape. The letter has been confirmed by Father Peter Kavumpuram, the Public Relations Officer of Diocese of Jalandhar.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal was interrogated by the Kerala police for several hours yesterday.

Mulakkal, who heads the diocese of Jalandhar, wrote to the Vatican on Sunday asking to step down temporarily as protests and calls for his arrest grew. Meanwhile, the survivor nun has also written to the Vatican and sought for intervention in the ongoing case and has also demanded the bishop's removal. He has denied the charges.

Mr Hari Sankar told reporters that the bishop was served a notice to appear before the probe team at 10.30 a.m. on Friday.

The bishop's lawyer was not immediately reachable.

Her letter, leaked to Indian media, said Mulakkal was "using political and money power to bury the case".

The five nuns of Missionaries of Jesus are determined to get justice. Mulakkal has rejected the allegations, calling them a conspiracy against the church. The sister also said that she was there all those years and that she saw the victim nun being very happy with Franco Mulakkal. Agitations have been on for days, after there was a delay in the Kerala Police acting on the complaint.

The protest by various Catholic reform organisations and a group of nuns seeking Mulakkal's arrest entered Day 13 on Thursday.
