NASA’s newest planet hunter telescope shares first science image

In its latest photo, TESS captured stars and objects that includes systems that are home to exoplanets.

The long spikes you see in the image are caused by a pair of stars called Beta Gruis and R Doradus that are so bright they saturate an entire column of pixels. That will allow it to cover 85% of the sky. This time all four of the satellite's wide-field cameras were used, providing a panoramic view of the southern sky connected from 16 distinct images. The satellite has completed its first orbit and part of the data from that first orbit includes this detailed image of the southern sky taken with the quartet of wide-field cameras TESS fields.

However, it's not the first time TESS has beamed an image back to Earth. TESS was launched into space in April 2018 and is created to search for exoplanets by the transit method, photometry, it monitors the brightness variations of the star during the passage of the planet on its disk.

TESS' four wide-field cameras, each with four detectors, captured this annotated "first light" image of the sky during a 30-minute period on August 7.

There are parts of a dozen constellations in the TESS image, according to NASA, along with a globular cluster that includes hundreds of thousands of stars. The northern sky will obtain its take a look at-up throughout the 2nd year. While Kepler's examination of the sky targeted on stars between 300 and Three, 000 gentle years away, TESS is having a evaluation a minute nearer to residence. Over the next three years, TESS will continue to scan the night sky, sector by sector.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin Are Reportedly Not Married
Bieber was born and raised in Ontario, Canada but has lived in the USA since he was 13 when he moved with his family to Atlanta. Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber is reportedly solidifying his ties to America by applying for citizenship.

"In a sea of stars brimming with new worlds, TESS is casting a wide net and will haul in a bounty of promising planets for further study", said Paul Hertz, astrophysics division director at NASA Headquarters in Washington. NASA plans for TESS to spend two years monitoring 26 sectors of the sky for 27 days each.

NASA has released the first image from its new space telescope.

'One of the biggest questions in exoplanet exploration is: If an astronomer finds a planet in a star's habitable zone, will it be interesting from a biologist's point of view?' said George Ricker, TESS principal investigator at MIT's Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research.

To hunt for planets, the telescope will look for changes in a star's brightness level - an indication that a planet is passing in front of the star as part of its orbit. It was launched back in April, but it took some time to get the satellite up to speed and begin working on actual science objectives.
