Trump orders declassification, release of Comey texts

Trump Explodes – Orders Declassification and Release of Russia Probe Docs and Texts From Mueller Probe

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee called President Trump's move to declassify Justice Department materials related to the Russian Federation investigation "a clear abuse of power" that risks exposing US intelligence-gathering strategies.

The White House made the announcement amid a firestorm involving Trump's Supreme Court nomination, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who is facing an allegation of sexual assault that took place when he was in high school.

The documents Trump is releasing reflect a specific request, down to the page numbers, made by the Republican members of the House judiciary and intelligence committeesthis summer.

Trump's supporters in Congress have argued that releasing the full document would show the unfair nature of the surveillance.

Several U.S. officials, with knowledge of what is contained in the documents, told SaraACarter.com that the documents requested will not expose sources or methods, but one source added: "It will only expose the malfeasance that took place within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ".

The move was confirmed in a statement from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Monday, "the President is potentially risking the lives of our patriots by compromising sources and methods, all so he can advance falsehoods and false narratives that distract from the truth of the Trump-Russia scandal".

Accepting his award, he thanked producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss, saying: "Thank you, Dave and Dan for changing my life". Also stepping out for the awards show were Nikolaj's Game of Thrones co-stars Gwendoline Christie and Nathalie Emmanuel .

Now that President Trump has ordered the declassification of other previously redacted parts of the Carter Page FISA application, what happens now?

They also appear to concern a dossier of unverified information on Russian financial and personal links to Trump and his associates that was compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele. Democrats weeks later released their own memo.

Finally, Trump directed the Justice Department to release, without redactions, text messages relating to the Russian Federation probe from former FBI Director James Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and other officials, including FBI agent Peter Strzok. Moscow also a couple of times refuted the accusations of trying to influence the course of elections in the US.

The disclosures were unprecedented given that surveillance warrants obtained from the secret court are highly classified and are not meant to be publicly disclosed, including to defendants preparing for or awaiting trial.

The declassification of the documents was quickly praised by Trump allies in Congress and attacked by Democrats.

"Transparency wins. This is absolutely the right call from POTUS", said Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, on Twitter.

Brennan said he thinks the action is causing concern among law enforcement and intelligence officials, as Trump is "trying to continue to find ways to get himself out of the mess that he is now in".
