Amazon planning to release new Alexa devices, including a microwave

Amazon taps into the smart home ecosystem with its new expected products like microwave oven

GE already makes a microwave that supports Alexa; there are also a bunch of products from other hardware brands like Logitech and Garmin that help you take Alexa on the road, so it'll be interesting to see what Amazon comes up with to take them on. By partnering with smart home installation companies, Amazon can make its Alexa-powered devices more readily available in new homes. Also, the range is said to be spread across different segments such as microwave oven, amplifier, receiver, subwoofer and even an in-car accessory. The devices are apparently coming before the end of 2018 with an announcement planned for later this month, according to internal documents. These inclusions are the most likely, with Amazon looking to compete against Sonos' wireless speaker line-up (who already have a wireless amplifier for connecting wired speakers) and the Siri-enabled Apple HomePod.

The internet giant is mulling the launch of eight new devices that can be controlled just by using your voice and its digital assistant technology, Alexa. There are also products such as the Roav Viva from Anker, an Alexa device which plugs into the 12-volt socket and plays music through the car's Bluetooth-enabled speaker system.

It's unclear if the new devices will consist exclusively of collaborations between Amazon and other tech manufacturers, or if all of the devices will be made and sold by Amazon. The more in-house products and partnerships Amazon can score for Alexa, the better.

Salesforce billionaire Marc Benioff to buy Time magazine
Meredith has said that the Benioffs will not be directly involved with the title, and will have no say in its editorial decisions. A man holds up a copy of Time Magazine in Des Moines, Iowa January 28, 2016.

Amazon is also reported to be working on a secretive home robot. Sonos has a similar business model.

Amazon doesn't disclose sales numbers for the Echo, but has previously said "tens of millions" of Alexa-enabled devices sold worldwide.

Amazon declined to comment to CNBC regarding the report. All of them will be Alexa-enabled, however, some of them will have Alexa inbuilt, says the report.
