Disney Stands By Its Original Decision and Will Not Rehire James Gunn

James Gunn

Gunn was sacked after some old social media posts of his were unearthed, and resurfaced by some alt-right agitators.

Despite the cast statement, Dave Bautista's furious tweets, and a fan petition calling for James Gunn to be reinstated as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it seems that the filmmaker definitely isn't coming back to cap off his space opera trilogy.

The latest report of the Gunn fiasco claims that James Gunn was actually asked to sit down and meet with Alan Horn, the studio chairman of the Walt Disney Company, where Disney made it clear to Gunn that he would not be rehired. Reports do not confirm officially whether or not Disney will scrap Gunn's screenplay for Vol. 3, though it is suggested that the script will remain in play, pending creative input from the yet unnamed incoming director.

News of Disney committing to their decision (which many saw as hasty to begin with anyway), will no doubt disappoint those who'd hoped to see Gunn return to the franchise.

Sanders also criticized Turkey's imposition of tariffs on some USA goods as "regrettable and a step in the wrong direction". The currency's climb followed retaliatory tariffs by Ankara against United States goods including rice, coal and cars.

When Kevin Feige comes back into town, Disney and Marvel will figure out who will take over as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Guardians 3 had been tentatively positioned to start shooting in early 2019. Instead, it was exclusively decided by the higher-ups at Disney. Now, Marvel's hunt for a new director continues and, one imagines, Gunn's probably thinking about all of those gigs other Hollywood studios are supposedly desperate to give him. Disney tries more than almost every studio to hold onto their family friendly image, and rehiring a director that they fired for making pedophilic jokes would certainly do more bad than good for their image. Feige pushed for Gunn's reinstatement but will stand by the decision not to bring him back.

"Though the meeting was described as civil and professional, sources say that Horn stood by his decision to not reinstate Gunn as director". Apparently, Horn/Disney has chose to stand by their decision to sack James Gunn.
