Steve Bruce to remain Aston Villa boss

Steve Bruce Aston Villa

New Aston Villa chairmen Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens confirmed via club statement that incumbent manager Steve Bruce is staying on as head coach.

It now looks as though Bruce will remain in charge of Villa heading into the new Championship season. Jack Ford though didn't share the same excitement, calling it a "massive risk".

The newspaper quote a source close to the takeover negotiations who claimed Henry had "verbally agreed" to become Villa's new boss.

The Droyd, on the other hand showed his concern, terming it "madness" to appoint someone with no past experience while doing away with one of the most experienced managers around.

Last week Villa saw businessmen Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens invest in the club, which has struggled financially since losing the play-off final.

Sawiris is said to want "day-to-day" involvement in the football club.

Bruce did not speak to media after the match, but Hammers winger Robert Snodgrass, who played for Bruce at Hull, hailed the decision.

"I loved the players, staff, city".

According to the Birmingham press, the new owners see the club as having enormous potential and a promotion back to the Premier League could see their current value of approximately $120 million rise to $600 million. "He is a top manager".

Thierry Henry had been sounded out about a potential succession but Sawiris and Edens have chose to stick with the 57-year-old who guided the side to last season's Championship play-off final.
