Police union tells officers to return their Miami Dolphins tickets for refunds

Dolphins

At Miami, Dolphins receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson and defensive end Robert Quinn protested during the anthem.

President Trump is reigniting his feud with the NFL over players protesting during the national anthem, a topic that he considers a political victor just as the midterm elections are heating up.

The Palm Beach County PBA released a similar statement, asking its members to also request ticket refunds.

"He contended "most of them are unable to define" what they're demonstrating against".

"It just happened that way", Stills said after the game, via the New York Times, adding that he had the support of coach Adam Gase.

In a separate protest, Philadelphia Eagles players Malcolm Jenkins and De'Vante Bausby raised their fists during the playing of the song before their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

-Using shorthand such as "anthem protest" or putting the focus on individual players by, for example, keeping a running tab on which players kneeled is not responsible.

"I think it's important to utilize the platform as we can because for whatever reason, we have framed this demonstration in a negative light, and often players have to defend why we feel the need to fight for everyday Americans, and in actuality we're doing the right thing".

Jordan was one of the several Saints players to sit during the anthem last season, and he also had talks with quarterback Drew Brees about promoting social justice, TMZ reports.

The anthem protests - meant to draw attention to racial injustice - have happened with varying participation since 2016, pulling the National Football League into a public debate that has seen President Donald Trump call on team owners to stem them. All three knelt during the anthem last season, the newspaper reported.

Policies aside, Stills and Wilson still knelt for the anthem on Thursday to protest social injustices.

President Donald Trump criticized the players on Twitter. "I find it personally offensive that he is protesting the police as hundreds of officers die every year to protect the citizens of their communities". This changed when President Trump, in an attempt to mobilize his most reactionary supporters and divert attention from his crisis-ridden administration, launched a public attack on the National Football League for not cracking down more forcefully on protests, declaring, "Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say 'get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he's fired'".

In response to backlash from the president and some fans, the league tightened its policy, which now includes potential fines against teams whose players protest.

South Florida police officers are encouraged to boycott Dolphins games after a couple of players continued protesting during the national anthem Thursday prior to kickoff of the team's preseason opener against the Buccaneers.

The NFL now has its anthem policy on hold as it tries to come to a compromise with the NFLPA on the issues.
