Panic as Promenade Collapses at Spanish Music Festival

HUNDREDS of concertgoers have been left injured after a pier collapsed into the sea during a Spanish pop festival. Rescue workers say there was chaos when boards buckled and concert-goers began sliding into the sea.

Witnesses reported scenes of panic as people tried to scramble to safety.

Authorities have confirmed that 313 people were injured in the collapse.

"I was with a group of friends when the people beside us fell, as though something had dragged them down".

Officials in Vigo, which sits in an estuary along the Atlantic Ocean, did not yet know what caused the boardwalk to collapse.

The president of Vigo's Port Authority said he thought the structure, built in the 1990s, collapsed due to "excess weight, to overcapacity".
