Calgary ranks fourth in The Economist's list of most livable cities

Vienna has been named the world’s most liveable city

"Osaka's improvements in scores for quality and availability of public transportation, as well as a consistent decline in crime rates, have contributed to higher ratings in the infrastructure and stability categories respectively", said the unit's report.

Taipei has moved up two places in the rankings of the world's most livable cities to 58th place, according to the 2018 Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Livability Ranking.

Austrian capital, Vienna, has beaten Australia's Melbourne to be named the world's most liveable city.

"Although it was overtaken by Singapore in the rankings for the first time previous year, Hong Kong has now surpassed its regional rival, albeit with only a marginal difference of 0.1% overall".

Osaka stands out especially, having climbed six positions, to third place, over the past six months, closing the gap with Melbourne. Vancouver was listed as sixth.

Anthony joins Rockets, his fourth National Basketball Association team in 13 months
The Rockets fell one win short of the NBA Finals, dropping the Western Conference Finals to the Warriors in seven games. General manager Daryl Morey posted an Instagram photo of 'Melo signing his contract Monday afternoon.

Two other Australian cities feature in the top-ranked places: Sydney (5th) and Adelaide (10th), while only one other European city made the top ten.

The ranking's editor, Roxana Slavcheva, said Manchester had "shown resilience in the city's recovery from a recent, high-profile terrorist attack, which previously shook up stability".

Rounding out the top 10 were the Canadian city of Toronto and Japan's capital Tokyo, both with a score of 97.2, Copenhagen in Denmark (96.8), and Adelaide in Australia (96.6). The Asian city achieved a score of 91.3% this time round, moving up to 35th place. Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Colombo and Dhaka's ranking fell due to various cultural and environment indicators.

An improved security score has meant that Manchester has pulled further ahead in the liveability index, leading London by a record 13 places and 2.2 per cent. Wore-torn Syria saw its capital of Damascus rank last on the list as the country's bloody civil war continues to drag on. The placement is slightly improved from last year's report, when Calgary came in fifth on the list.
