England vs India, second Test, day four

India were all out for 107 in their first innings at Lord's

It has been sorely needed too by an England Test team who were without a win in seven away games last winter and were on the brink of crisis when they were defeated by Pakistan here at Lord's in the first Test of this summer.

Anderson picked up where he left off in the first innings (5-20), having Murali Vijay caught behind for his second duck of the match.

After starring with the bat, Chris Woakes took his chance with the ball.

If Broad's rhythm had not been interrupted it could easily have gone down as another of his fabled match-winning spells but instead it was confirmation of his absolute return to his best, summed up by a late inswinger to bowl Cheteshwar Pujara as good as anything Anderson managed in the match.

The only question then was whether India could take the game into a final day but the answer emphatically was that they could not, with Anderson again magnificent in going past 100 wickets at Lord's and Woakes again superb.

Thibaut Courtois apologises to Chelsea for going AWOL
They are qualities Hazard possesses in abundance and he came off the bench late on to brilliantly fashion a third goal for Pedro . But the Terriers were dealt a hammer blow in the 44th when referee Chris Kavanagh awarded the visitors a penalty.

Anderson followed up by trapping Lokesh Rahul lbw for 10 with a ball that came back off the seam into the right-hander.

One of those victims, and arguably the man guilty of two of the loosest dismissals in the match, was Ajinkya Rahane - the promise shown on India's last tour of England seemingly increasingly distant. He was well supported by pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad who tore apart the Indian batting.

As recently as three days ago it would not have seemed entirely unreasonable to propose that the remainder of this series would be a closely fought dogfight between two well-matched sides - now, after India's dismal capitulation inside less than two days worth of actual playing time, that suggestion seems laughable. Before this Test eventually got underway on Friday, this series seemed very much alive - India on the back foot a little after their narrow defeat at Edgbaston, but still the number one side in Test cricket and a team with high hopes of competing against a skilled but also often very flawed England side. Not proud of the way we've played. Broad ended with figures of 4-44. I thought Ollie Pope batted really well in a challenging time. Even when the ball's doing a bit, you have to pitch it in the right areas.

Anderson, who took his 100th Test wicket at Lord's earlier in the day, returned to dismiss Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami. "Their guys were relentless; they made us work for the runs", he said. "To get that far in front, it is testament to the partnership between Jonny and Woakes".
