'Deflategate' sequel during preseason? Nope, NFL says just a defective ball

In the third quarter of Thursday's Eagles-Steelers preseason game, WIP's Howard Eskin reported that Steelers rookie QB Mason Rudolph was using a vastly deflated ball.

Eskin said the National Football League has one of the balls in question, adding that it was very deflated and like a marshmellow. When Eskin saw it on the sideline following an incompletion, it "looked like a marshmallow".

PGA Championship: Tiger Woods in contention as Brooks Koepka leads
Resuming his weather-delayed round on the 12th hole Saturday, the Lehi resident made two more birdies and two bogeys to finish. Here's reaction from the top two golfers in the clubhouse, Woodland and Kisner. "It was nice", Woodland told reporters .

In the AFC Championship Game that followed the 2014 regular season, the NFL determined the Patriots purposefully used deflated footballs in their 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

NFL vice president of football communications Michael Signora released a statement Friday morning suggesting the incident simply was an equipment issue and that the Steelers likely won't be facing any months-long investigation. Now, he's best known as the first quarterback in more than 35 years to get drafted in the first two rounds and then not throw a pass during his first two NFL seasons, as Football Perspective's Chase Stuart pointed out. There was optimism surrounding the move, with Oakland coach Jon Gruden lauding the quarterback back in his ESPN days.
