EmuParadise is removing its ROM library to avoid growing legal pressure

Blue skies

Also worth noting is the preservation benefits sites like EmuParadise provide, which Frank Cifaldi puts so well here (please read the whole thread).

"Many of you are aware that the situation with regards to emulation sites has been changing recently". The founder of Emuparadise, a long-running website that offered a near-comprehensive library of ROMs and ISOs for the games of yesteryear, announced this week that they have chose to stop distributing those classic titles. Today, however, site founder MasJ released a statement titled "EmuParadise is Changing", and explained that in order to avoid continued legal battles and takedown notices that could "risk the futures of our team members who have contributed to the site through the years", EmuParadise ROM downloads would no longer be available. The website has played host to thousands of ROMs and ISOs over the years, and it's a go-to site for many gamers. We run EmuParadise for the love of retro games and for you to be able to revisit those good times.

If you've been alive for more than a couple of decades, you've probably played a few "retro" games in your lifetime.

KitGuru Says: The way I see it, EmuParadise will likely turn into more of a community forum for those who enjoy retro games. "Unfortunately, it's not possible right now to do so in a way that makes everyone happy and keeps us out of trouble", EmuParadise states. Did any of you use EmuParadise over the years? It appears that this has helped spark a new level of fear among such sites, as EmuParadise - one of the biggest ROM sites on the web - has made a decision to change its ways.

Massive fire sparks 'firenado' in England
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had spread to a building and forklift trucks on the site. The company said the fire was in an outside area which had been "completely gutted".

The site will continue to live on by doing "cool stuff around retro games", but it's not clear what that means - perhaps it will turn into a general retro gaming discussion platform, a marketplace, or something else entirely. This will include the removal of its ROM library, although the emulator database and community sides of the site will remain.

We have already made several plans of what is going to happen next.

The team ended the update with a thank-you to the community, and that they hope EmuParadise will continue to be the premium destination for emulation.
