Watch the Comic Con trailer for The Walking Dead season 9

Possible victims for episode one include most of the main cast

Lincoln confirmed the news Friday afternoon at the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel.

The first look opened with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) catching us - and a locked up Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) - up on the progress the communities have made in the time jump between season 8 and 9.

There were groans from the audience as Lincoln broke the news. "I wouldn't want to spoil anything, but anybody who has been a fan of his journey, who loves Rick Grimes, who loves the world of The Walking Dead, you're going to want to see what we do". I love the people who make this show-I promise not to cry, I've done enough crying on screen-I am also deeply fond of the people who watch this show, you people. "This has been the most extraordinary, amazing, useful experience of my career".

During a question and answer session with fans, the actor was asked what role he would like to take next.

The trailer debuted at "The Walking Dead's" Comic-Con panel following the "Fear the Walking Dead" presentation, which featured its own trailer for the upcoming season.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas agree new Mercedes deals

"My relationship with Mr. Grimes is far from over and a sort of large part of me will always be a machete-wielding, Stetson-wearing, zombie-slaying sheriff's deputy from London, England."

"But what I do know is I believe in the story so much and this is a really terrific season for Rick's story".

That said, Andrew was quick to confirm that he will still be leaving be the show this season.

"There are a couple of things I am thinking about doing but I am so in love with Rick Grimes I can not put him down".
