India vs England: Jason Roy doubtful for 3rd ODI

Kent captain Sam Billings has been called into the England one-day worldwide squad for their crucial series decider against India on Tuesday. He was criticised for not being aggressive enough in his 59-ball 37-run knock as India could only manage 236 in 50 overs after England posted 322 for seven.

Roy sustained a laceration to the little finger of his right hand while fielding during England's 86-run victory over India at Lord's on Saturday and a team spokesman said Monday: "He remains a doubt for tomorrow (Tuesday) and will have a fitness test in the morning at the ground to ascertain whether he'll be fit to play".

While Dinesh Karthik contributed 21 runs, MS Dhoni once again played a slow-paced innings, after he scored 42 runs off 66 balls.

England bowlers David Willey and Adil Rashid grabbed three wickets each as India lost wickets at regular intervals.

But the introduction of Yorkshire fast bowler Liam Plunkett helped India break the shackles.

India lost the series on their tour of England as the hosts won by 8 wickets to clinch the 3-match series. Suresh Raina (46 runs), Virat Kohli (45) and Shikhar Dhawan all put up a fighting effort, but went in vain. Along with Root, India's spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also broken into the top ten for the first time in his career after he claimed nine wickets in the three matches.

Root scored two hundreds in the ODI series.

The sides will now contest a five-match Test series, which begins at Edgbaston on August 1, before games at Lord's (August 9), Trent Bridge (August 18), The Ageas Bowl (August 30) and The Oval (September 7).

'It's extremely encouraging for Joe, ' said Morgan.

While some of the Test team are now playing for England Lions against India "A", Root will prepare by playing for Yorkshire against Lancashire in the County Championship game which begins on Sunday (July 22).
