British Police Confirm Source Of Novichok Poisoning

A British man exposed to Novichok, four months after the same nerve agent was used against a former Russian spy nearby, had found it in a perfume bottle, his brother said.

Several key sites, including Mr Rowley's Amesbury address and Ms Sturgess's flat in Salisbury remain in sealed off and police have warned that the cordons would remain in place for some considerable time.

A police officer stands guard July 4, 2018, outside Charlie Rowley's house in Amesbury, southern England.

Scotland Yard said this "remains a main line of enquiry for the investigation team".

Further tests will be carried out to establish whether it is from the same batch that contaminated Sergei and Yulia Skripal in March.

Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, national lead for Counter Terrorism (CT) Policing in the United Kingdom, described the process as "painstaking and vital work". However, we can not guarantee that there isn't any more of the substance left and cordons will remain in place for some considerable time.

"This contact is being done in close consultation with the hospital and the doctors".

Also it was said that the bottle found in the home of Charlie Rowley, was tested by scientists in a Laboratory of the defence science and technology (DSTL) at Porton Down.

Sturgess' partner, 45-year-old Charlie Rowley from Amesbury, a town a few miles from Salisbury, is still recovering in hospital after falling critically ill.

British police said earlier they suspected the new victims had handled a container contaminated with Novichok and had no reason to think Rowley and Sturgess were targeted deliberately.

Meanwhile, Ms Sturgess's son, Ewan Hope, 19, has called on US President Donald Trump to raise his mother's death with Vladimir Putin when they meet in Helsinki.

About 100 counter-terror detectives are working on the inquiry along with officers from Wiltshire Police.

Britain has invited independent technical experts from the global chemical weapons watchdog to travel to the United Kingdom early next week to independently confirm the identity of the nerve agent, the British Foreign Office said on Friday.

As a precaution members of the public are continuing to be urged to not to pick up items such as syringes, needles, cosmetics or similar objects made of materials such as metal, plastic or glass.
