Donald Trump claims relationship with Theresa May is 'very good'

Donald Trump has backtracked on his criticism of Theresa May's Brexit strategy and accused The Sun of "fake news" after the newspaper published a "world exclusive" interview with him which he claims withheld his positive comments about the prime minister. "I was opening Turnberry the day before Brexit".

Sitting alongside May at the beginning of talks at the prime minister's country retreat of Chequers, Trump said: "The relationship is very, very strong".

The billionaire also tore into Mrs May's negotiating skills, telling The Sun that he would have handled them "much differently", adding he had given advice to the Prime Minister "but she didn't listen".

Trump has claimed to have recorded disputed exchanges in the past without providing evidence.

The US President, who has faced planned protests in London since his arrival, also told The Sun he feels "unwelcome" in London, explaining why much of his visit will take place outside the capital city.

"We are cracking down right now on the European Union because they have not treated the United States fairly on trading".

She said: "There will be no limit to the possibility of us doing trade deals around the rest of the world once we leave the European Union on the basis of the agreement that was made here at Chequers and that I've put forward to the European Union". One protest group has been given permission for a balloon in the president's image, shaded in orange and dressed in a diaper, known as the "Trump Baby Blimp", to hover over Parliament Square Garden.

"I actually told Theresa May how to do (Brexit)", the US leader said in the interview, "but she didn't agree, she didn't listen to me".

Three years before marrying the former Nancy Barbato, he had landed a 15-minute radio show on local station WAAT. Her death comes two decades after her husband's, who died of a heart attack in 1998 at the age of 82.

The US-born woman added: "As an American, I know that most people here know what it is like to have a government that doesn't speak for you, that refuses to do what is right, and sometimes even refuses to turn up and represent you".

May quickly rebutted Trump during their joint appearance, saying the United Kingdom has a "proud history of welcoming people who are fleeing persecution to our country".

Trump's interview published Thursday amounted to a stunning diplomatic affront for a visiting USA president, emerging while Trump was still at a gala dinner May threw in honor of his visit. He obviously likes me, and says very good things about me.

"I didn't criticize the PM". If there is a visit confirmed, I think there will be thousands of people on the street against Trump.

US President Donald Trump on Friday said he was at his golf course in Scotland "the day before Brexit" and correctly predicted the result of the June 23, 2016 referendum.

The Trumps had earlier arrived at Stansted with their sizeable entourage.
