The world's longest fingernails have been cut.

Shridhar Chillal - from Pune, India - has been growing his fingernails since 1952.

The nails prevented him from sleeping properly - he had to wake up regularly to check they weren't being crushed.

When asked about having them cut, Shridhar said: "When I had my nails, I took very special care of [them] because nails are a very delicate part of our body".

Despite Mr Chillal's fingernails causing him to lose function in his left hand due to their weight and length, and his fingers being permanently fused together, he went on work as a photographer for a government agricultural magazine for 22 years. The longest nail, from his thumb, is 77.8 inches.

This is the moment that he finally said goodbye to his record-breaking nails.
