World’s longest fingernails finally cut after 66 years

But they weren't destroyed: Chillal ultimately did away with the nails after New York City's Ripley's Believe It or Not!

After about 64 years, when he had grown his nails to a total length of 909.6 cm (9.1 m), Chillal's name found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having "Longest Fingernails on a Single Hand Ever" in 2016.

They flew Chillal from Pune to NY to cut his nails and memorialise them forever in the museum. The museum will host a "nail clipping ceremony" today where Chillal's nails will be cut.

Chillal's longest nail alone measured 197.8 cm.

An Indian man who holds the record for the "longest fingernails on a single hand" reportedly got them clipped for the first time in more than six decades.

Shridhar Chillal of India displays his newly cut fingernails in NY.

Tom DeLay: I Approve of Trump Blowing Off CNN
Acosta responded by saying CNN is a real network too. "It's called fake news and we solve a lot of problems with the good old recording instrument".

Since being shared yesterday, the video has collected over 1.3 lakh views and hundreds of comments.

The world's longest fingernails have been cut.

Shridhar Chillal - from Pune, India - has been growing his fingernails since 1952.

The nails prevented him from sleeping properly - he had to wake up regularly to check they weren't being crushed.

When asked about having them cut, Shridhar said: "When I had my nails, I took very special care of [them] because nails are a very delicate part of our body".

Despite Mr Chillal's fingernails causing him to lose function in his left hand due to their weight and length, and his fingers being permanently fused together, he went on work as a photographer for a government agricultural magazine for 22 years. The longest nail, from his thumb, is 77.8 inches.

This is the moment that he finally said goodbye to his record-breaking nails.
