SpaceX will launch the Israeli station on the moon

The project in total has cost $88.5 million so far, reported BBC, with SpaceIL's main partner the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries.

Hopefully, the success of the mission will inspire scientific curiosity among Israeli youth.Kahn said, "We are trying to replicate the Apollo effect in America", referring to the American program, which first landed on the Moon in 1969."If we continue to be a start-up country, then we have to meet engineers."But before its launch, according to Damari, the pod and its project have shown great interest among the children".

Its first task will be to plant an Israeli flag on the moon, organizers said.

The project began as part of the Google Lunar XPrize, which offered United States dollars 30 million (25 million euros) in prizes to encourage scientists and entrepreneurs to come up with relatively low-priced moon missions.

Project managers said that the SpaceIL, an unmanned craft built by Israeli engineers, is slated to take off later this year and land on the moon on February 13 next year.

Israel will launch a rocket to the moon in December.

Parents of Thai cave rescue boy give thanks to God
At a school opposite the hospital in Chiang Rai where the boys are recovering, schoolchildren were in an excited, celebratory mood.

The probe weighs just 600 kilograms (1,322 pounds).

The maximum speed expected to reach is over 10 km per second (36,000 kilometers, or almost 22,370 miles, per hour), the report adds. "It's a national accomplishment that will put us on the world's space map". The rocket will deliver the apparatus to a height of 60 thousand km, and it will be released on elliptical path around the Earth.

The collected data will be transmitted to IAI control room for the next two days after the landing.

In the coming months the spacecraft will undergo a series of intensive checks and tests at IAI, to prove that the lander will withstand the launch, flight and landing conditions, said Dr. Ido Anteby, SpaceIL CEO. The measurements are intended for research conducted at the Weizmann Institute of Science-UCLA.

IAI CEO Josef Weiss said he regards the launch of the first Israeli spacecraft to the moon as an example of the wonderful capabilities once can reach in civilian space activity. "The State of Israel, which is as of now standing strong in the domain of space in its military action, must utilize assets for the advantage of non-military personnel space, which is an engine of development, innovation, and education all over the world".
