Page's Attorney Slams House Republicans' 'Bullying Tactics'

Peter Strzok and Lisa Page

Page exchanged text messages critical of Donald Trump with Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok, who will testify publicly before the panels Thursday. The text messages were uncovered during the Justice Department inspector general's probe of the Clinton email investigation.

According to the Washington Examiner, Page's attorney confirmed her client's plan to comply with Congressional requests and appear before the House Judiciary Committee at an unspecified date.

Page also briefly served on Mueller's investigative team until the revelations of her texts with Strzok.

"Public opinion has turned strongly against the Rigged Witch Hunt and the "Special" Counsel because the public understands that there was no Collusion with Russian Federation (so ridiculous), that the two Federal Bureau of Investigation lovers were a fraud against our Nation & that the only Collusion was with the Dems!" She mentions a referral sent to the FBI by several GOP lawmakers in April that recommends a criminal investigation of several current and former DOJ employees, including Page.

He is scheduled to appear again in a public hearing Thursday morning.

Page's lawyer Amy Jeffress said in a statement the subpoena was issued before Page was able to view the materials that had been produced to Congress.

House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte confirmed in an interview on Fox News that Page has been given those options to appear this week, but if she doesn't, she could be held in contempt as soon as Friday.

President claims victory in battle over North Atlantic Treaty Organisation cash
After the morning's drama, reporters were left to sort out just how far Trump was willing to push in his negotiations with allies. President Donald Trump into hiking military spending, saying that his country would make its own "sovereign" decisions.

Goodlatte said that he doesn't buy Page's claim that she couldn't sufficiently prepare, noting the committees informed Page in December they would seek to speak to her. But a subpoena to testify before Congress is not optional. The DOJ watchdog published a report last month that revealed messages between Strzok and Page which suggested the two of them, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, would try and stop Trump from getting elected.

Jeffress said in a statement prior to the contempt threat that Page could not appear without first having access to Federal Bureau of Investigation documents that the committees already possessed, and that they had ignored her efforts to find a later date for the deposition. Trump tweeted over the weekend. Page resigned from the FBI in May but Strzok remains working for the bureau in a new capacity.

As the committees have investigated bias at the Justice Department, they have focused much of their ire on Strzok.

House Republicans have been nevertheless aggressively pushing for interviews - including by serving Strzok with a subpoena for public testimony Thursday after declining to release a transcript of his closed-door testimony last month as his lawyer and Democrats demanded.

Strzok was questioned for 11 hours over his role and alleged bias in a closed hearing of the two committees two weeks ago.

The Judiciary Committee also held a contentious hearing June 28 with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

House Republicans have engaged in a war of words and threats against the Justice Department for withholding information about the Trump-Russia investigation.
