One Boy Takes On Key Role During Thailand Cave Rescue

The pumps inside the cave failed shortly after the last boy emerged

The foreign affairs department also extended its condolences to the family of a former Thai Navy Seal diver who sacrificed his life during the rescue mission.

The rescue mission was indeed a highly risky one as a retired Thai Navy SEAL diver died last Friday (July 6) when he ran out of oxygen in the flooded cave.

Earlier in the week Sunrise reporter Chris Reason showed a sneak peak inside the opening chamber, but this latest footage has made the shocking rescue all that more incredible.

Meanwhile, despite being trapped in the dark and damp cave, health officials said that the boys, aged 11 to 16, are in good physical and mental health and eating normal food.

The official also said that they have to check to see if they were born in the country or if they have a Thai father or mother. Moreover, Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha confirmed the boys were given the drug "to make them not excited, not stressed", according to the Daily Mail.

There were several options as to how to save the boys, including keeping them in the cave until the monsoon season was over.

Each boy was strapped to one of two rescue divers tasked with shepherding him, and bundled onto stretchers to be carried through the dry parts.

This will be the second time that Ivanhoe Pictures and Jon M. Chu will be teaming up as their first collaboration, Crazy Rich Asians, will be arriving in theaters on August 15.

There's no word yet on when any of the two films will go into production but it seems like both directors and film production companies want to create a story about the Thai cave rescue mission that had us all glued to our seats.

The BBC reports that United States studio Pure Flix has already started interviewing rescue workers for the film.

Chu responded on Twitter saying "no way." . "We wish them a speedy recovery".

"There's a attractive story about human beings saving other human beings". He cautioned anyone thinking of approaching the story to do it "right and respectfully".

Their plight and the massive, unsafe three-day-long operation to free them gripped the world's attention.

He was the only adult with the boys when they entered the cave on June 23 until they were found nine days later by British divers on a muddy bank deep inside the cave complex. He is a member of the British cave rescue council, and has been involved in previous rescues alongside Mr Stanton and Mr Mallinson, including a rescue mission in Mexico in 2004 which had certain similarities to the Thai situation.
