Last Alaska Blockbusters set to close, leaving 1 store in US

Soon, there will only be one lonely Blockbuster Video left in America. At one time in the recent past there were four independently owned and operated Blockbuster franchises. Now, the Anchorage Daily News reports the two Alaskan Blockbusters are closing for good. This leaves just one lonely Blockbuster Video in OR, which might as well be turned into a museum at this point.

Alaska's final two Blockbuster video stores will rent out their last movies and close up shop at the end of the week, management announced Thursday - leaving the us with a single remaining location.

Blockbuster was the king of movie and video game rentals in 1990s. They will be selling off their inventory and anything in the store that isn't nailed down. As a result of the closures, only one blockbuster in the United States still exists. They employed roughly 84,000 individuals worldwide.

Blockbuster's march into obsolescence began around 2013, when parent company Dish Network Corp's CEO Joseph Clayton acknowledged that video entertainment was shifting towards a digital distribution system.

Trump administration says it has reunited all eligible young children with families
Ten of the children were ineligible for family reunification because their parent was in the " custody of U.S. Fabian said two of those children have already been reunited, and another 54 will be reunited by Tuesday.

Oliver bought the merchandise-which also included a robe, boxer shorts, the hood from Robin Hood and a vest from Les Miserables-in Crowe's "divorce auction".

It's not just streaming services that have hurt the video rental business, Payne said, attributing the decline in part to how smartphones and social media have changed the way people spend free time.

Two of Blockbuster's last three stores will close on Sunday. Most of the US stores closed shop soon after that. Nostalgic visitors flocked to the Alaska Blockbuster locations to take photos of the iconic blue-and-yellow signs and rows of DVDs. But the lease on both properties is up. Surprisingly, the stores are still profitable, he claimed, albeit rapidly declining.

It was the great poet Percy Shelley who once wrote: "And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Blockbuster, Video Store of Video Stores; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!" She said she has been working at Blockbuster for 14 years and seen her share of heartache as stores closed. Or it could be gone as early as tomorrow.
