Trump administration says it has reunited all eligible young children with families

Christian from Honduras recounts his separation from his child at the border during a news conference at the Annunciation House in El Paso Texas

The order came as a result of a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU.

The deadline comes after Border Patrol separated children were separated from their parents, under the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy.

Lee Gelernt, an ACLU lawyer involved in the lawsuit that led a federal judge to order the government to reunite families that were separated after crossing the Mexican border, said in text messages to CBS News that the ACLU has been unable to learn anything more about the child.

On Wednesday night, a government official said all children under five who were eligible for reunification would be with their parents by Thursday morning.

During the June 27th ruling, the Judge stated that "Measures were not in place to provide for communication between governmental agencies responsible for detaining parents and those responsible for housing children, or to provide for ready communication between separated parents and children".

Before departing the White House for Europe, Trump said, "That's the solution". Fabian said two of those children have already been reunited, and another 54 will be reunited by Tuesday.

During the hearing in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport, Marisol Orihuela, a Yale professor working on the case, said the plaintiffs want the court to rule to have the children - identified as J.S.R. and V.F.B. - and their parents released immediately.

"That is going to be a significant undertaking", U.S. Judge Dana Sabraw said on Tuesday of the next deadline.

The other 46 children were determined not eligible for reunification.

The government said 24 children are now not eligible to be reunited with parents "due to circumstances of the adults in question", 11 of whom are in criminal custody with either the U.S. Marshals Service or state jails.

The separations sparked national and worldwide outrage that crossed party lines and including warnings from health experts that taking children from their parents would incur significant emotional harm.

Jennye Mariel Pagoada Lopez, 24, said one night she got so sick that a fellow detainee was forced to scream and wave at a security camera to get her help - but the officials who arrived still refused to get her to a doctor, despite her heavy bleeding. One parent was suspected of child abuse; another was living in a household with another adult who had an outstanding warrant for criminal sexual abuse of a minor.

The government defended its screening, saying it discovered parents with serious criminal histories and one case of credible child abuse. But make no mistake about it: "the government missed the deadline even for these 57 children".

"But until I have both my children with me, I don't know what I will do", she said.

Parents were not charged for DNA testing, background checks or other parts of the reunification process, Matthew Albence, executive associate director of enforcement and removal operations at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told reporters.

The ACLU said the government hasn't even reached out to 12 parents who were already deported while their kids were in USA custody, leaving those children stranded.

Seven adults were not parents of the children from whom they were separated.

During Monday's court proceedings, government officials said that about half of the children in the under 5 age group - just over 50 - would be reunited by the deadline. Advocates for parents have complained that several of them may not have fully understood the paperwork they were signing when they agreed to their solo deportation.

The court-ordered reunions come as it was revealed detained adult migrants will be re-released from custody and be allowed to stay in the US.

Ten of the children were ineligible for family reunification because their parent was in the "custody of U.S. Marshals Service" or "state or county custody".
