Serena Williams Advances to 2018 Wimbledon Final with Win vs. Julia Gorges

Angelique Kerber

Times have changed, opponents have come and gone, and Serena Williams keeps vying for Grand Slam titles.

Following the announcement Williams said: "We've always had a wonderful friendship".

The 30-year-old was gifted point after point as Ostapenko's aggressive game backfired in a blaze of unforced errors.

The American is quite the queen of Centre Court, whether she's swinging her racket or engaging with the fandom.

Williams, seems to have taken the lead from her 10-month daughter in her approach to her comeback that has taken her to a 10th Wimbledon final.

"It's insane. I don't even know how to feel, you know, because literally, I didn't expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back", Williams said. "For me it's such a pleasure and a joy because, you know, less than a year ago, I was going through so much stuff". "I had a really tough delivery. and nearly didn't make it, to be honest", Williams said.

"I think it is a completely new match. I couldn't even walk to my mail box, so for me to back in a Wimbledon final isn't normal nor is it inevitable".

Paul Manafort treated like a 'VIP' in prison, court documents show
Prosecutors say Manafort's almost unlimited access to his lawyers means he should have no problem preparing for the trial. The "VIP" treatment Manafort has had at the Northern Neck jail appear to be coming to an end.

"I was expecting a few more baby steps myself", she said. "It'll be a good match".

"She's playing so well".

Williams, who is chasing her 24th Grand Slam title, returned to tennis in March, but failed to achieve any considerable progress in her first tournaments and struggled to regain decent competitive shape. Williams broke the ace-thumping, heavy-striking German again in the seventh game before serving out the set in 33-minutes. Though she was still only 183rd in the world headed into the fortnight, the All England Cub gave the seven-time Wimbledon singles champion the 25th seed-prompting applause from those who saw it as a significant step for female athletes and some grumbles from fellow players who simply thought it unfair to those who'd been active on the tour.

It took Kerber two tries to serve out the victory, getting broken to 5-2.

This year's final is the first repeat of a previous Wimbledon final since 2009, when Serena Williams faced Venus Williams for the fourth time in SW19, winning 7-6 (3), 6-2. But the American discovered to be human and double faulted as Goerges played her best shots of the match to create her first break point chances. "I don't know. There's word on the street", added the 36-year-old.

"When I don't have anything to lose, I can just play so free and that's what I'm doing".
