An accountability court sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in jail, his daughter Maryam to seven years and Safdar to one year in the Avenfield case.

The father-daughter duo, who are in London tending to Nawaz s wife, Kulsoom, who is being treated for cancer and is in a coma after suffering a heart attack last month, announced July 13 as the date for their return. Her husband, Mohammad Safdar, was handed one year after being found guilty of abetment.

68-year-old Sharif is now in London, where his wife Kulasum Nawaz is undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Sunday remarked that she was proud that Captain (r) Safdar surrendered like a lion.

The elusive politician, who did not appear before the court when he was convicted, went off the grid but surprisingly sent a defiant recorded audio message to the media that he would turn himself in as "honor demands it".

Liverpool eyeing up a move for Xherdan Shaqiri
Liverpool have been trying to reignite a deal despite a hands-off warning issued before the World Cup. Former Stoke boss Mark Hughes signed Shaqiri from Inter Milan in August 2015 for £12million.

Officer Raja Taifur said anticorruption authorities took Safdar into custody, according to The Associated Press.

While they will not face any difficulty in coming to Pakistan, they are expected to be arrested during the immigration process at the airport as per standard procedure for all those placed on the ECL, Geo TV reported.

Sharif, 67, was removed as prime minister and disqualified from politics for life by the Supreme Court in 2017 over undeclared assets.

Mushahidullah further said that the caretaker federal government and NAB should allow Nawaz to address the people and urge them to disperse peacefully.

He has described the court proceedings against him as politically motivated and a judicial witch-hunt. Titled "Road to New Pakistan", the manifesto is similar to other ambitious past pledges by political parties that ended up unable to make good on them.
