United Kingdom police say can not offer safety guarantees after Novichok death

Sturgess

British police say a woman who was exposed to a nerve agent in southern England has died.

"I simply can not offer any guarantees", Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, the head of Britain's counter-terror police, which is leading the investigation, told reporters, emphasising that public health authorities had said the risk was "low".

Rowley remains in critical condition.

"There can be no doubt what was used and there remains no alternative explanation about who was responsible - only Russian Federation has the means, motive and record", Boris Johnson, Britain's Foreign Affairs Secretary, said in a statement then.

Russian Federation denies any involvement in the Skripals' case.

There was no evidence that the two Britons had visited any of the sites that were decontaminated following the attempted killings of Sergei and Yulia Skripal, police said on Sunday.

Dawn Sturgess, 44, fell ill on June 30 after handling an item contaminated with the nerve agent novichok and was taken to hospital.

Sturgess, 44, died in the hospital Sunday evening. They say the poison could remain potent for months, particularly in a closed container.

The three other men have been tested and show no signs of having been exposed to novichok.

France has been one of the most complete sides in the tournament , topping Belgium in the semifinal round. France went 2-0-1 during the group stage before beating Uruguay in the quarterfinals.

The investigation into the poisonings is being led by detectives from the Counter Terrorism Policing Network, and about 100 detectives are working alongside officers from Wiltshire police.

Salisbury's MP has pointed the finger at Vladimir Putin after a woman who was poisoned by a Russian nerve agent died.

Kier Pritchard, head of the county police force in Wiltshire, acknowledged that Sturgess's death "is likely to raise the level of concern in Amesbury and Salisbury".

Police in HAZMAT suits as they investigate the poisoning of two people in Salisbury. "We believe that in any case this would be quite absurd", Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said it was a priority to locate a "container" which may have been the "source of the contamination".

Following the latest poisonings, Public Health England said the risk to the public remains low, but advised against picking up odd items like needles, syringes and unusual containers.

Dr Christine Blanshard, medical director at Salisbury District Hospital, expressed her condolences to Ms Sturgess' family and said her staff "did everything they could".

Per CNN, authorities now believe that Sturgess and Rowley came into contact with a contaminated item via their hands, but now lack the ability to determine whether the poison is from the same batch that the Skripals ingested. Police later said nothing out of the ordinary had been found.

This has been identified as the same type of nerve agent that contaminated both Yulia and Sergei Skripal.
