Google removes Uber bookings from Maps

Uber cheaper rides

By pulling the plug on it, Uber is relegated to the same footing as other ridesharing services, like Lyft and Gett.

For a reason yet to be explained, Alphabet's removed the ability to hail Uber rides from Google Maps. When you try to book a ride in Google Maps now, you'll get a price range from Uber, Lyft, and other ride-hailing services, but you won't actually be able to book your Uber ride inside the app. Which is why Google partnered up with Uber so they could integrate the company's ride-sharing service directly into the Google Maps application. However, for reasons now unknown, Google just removed that integration. That said, the fact that users were able to use the Uber service without downloading the actual Uber app might not have sat right with the ride sharing company. This cool integration is now gone!

Either way, you'll need the Uber app, which you can download from the Play Store by clicking the button below, if you want to continue using Uber rides.

Have a low-end phone or tiny data cap?

This does put the Android app in line with the iOS app, though.

A person looking for directions in a new city will very often require a cab to get to his destination. Google hyped up the feature when it was first added last January, releasing YouTube videos showing users how to book a ride without ever leaving the app. This particular feature will no longer work as of the latest app updates. However, Google has just removed this integration, and now you're back to booking your ride directly via the Uber application.
