"Along with Shujaat, his security chap was also killed and another lies injured in hospital".

Both the personal security officers also died of their injuries.

As per an official statement, Malik has said, "This attack on a saner Kashmiri voice is barbaric, gruesome and direct assault on freedom of speech and expression". "We will look into who these people are", J&K police chief added.

"I'm anguished to hear about the killing of Shujaat Bukhari, editor of Rising Kashmir".

Shujaat Bukhari was given police protection since an attack on him in 2000.

Pompeo said he appreciated everything done by China , North Korea's sole major ally, to prepare the ground for Tuesday's summit. Add North Korea as an interest to stay up to date on the latest North Korea news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

"Journalists working in Jammu and Kashmir have always been subject to a range of threats".

In the last hours before his death, Bukhari had tweeted about the United Nations report on human rights violations in Kashmir and India's rejection of the contents of the report.

"It is also why I will be urging the UN Human Rights Council to consider establishing a commission of inquiry to conduct a comprehensive independent worldwide investigation into allegations of human rights violations in Kashmir", said Zeid.

India's Interior Minister Rajnath Singh described him as a courageous and fearless journalist.

"Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are for their families. Only a few days ago he had come to meet me", an emotional Mufti said, struggling to hold back her tears. Media is free in India. The scribes from across the country expressed shock after the attack. His family members and well wishers condoled the shocking demise. "He will be missed".

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said he was "deeply saddened" to learn about the "dastardly killing" of the veteran journalist.
