Garmin's newest Vivoactive 3 smartwatch adds music, improved sleep tracking

Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music GPS Smartwatch With Integrated Music Launched

Garmin makes a lot of fitness watches.

The Vivoactive 3 features the same fitness, wellness and connectivity features as the original Vivoactive 3 introduced last summer. Well, the Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music has space for up to 500 songs, so you can play them from your watch on a set of Bluetooth headphones and leave your phone at home. Garmin's also promising an improved sleep tracking system that's arriving "soon", using heart rate variability and adding REM, light and deep sleep awareness - much like what Fitbit already does. The sleep tracking enhancements will come to the Vivoactive 3, Forerunner 645, Forerunner 935, Fenix 5 watches, Vivosport, Vivosmart 3 and Vivomove HR.

The sleep-tracking feature isn't yet ready for primetime, so I didn't get the chance to use it.

Essentially an upgraded version of the standard Vivoactive 3 released at the back of previous year, the 3 Music will now let you store music on another of its watches as well as enjoy some offline syncing support from select music streaming services. You can sync iHeartRadio playlists offline if you subscribe to that service's premium tier, which is $9.99 a month.

Amazon Prime discounts for Whole Foods stores spread to 10 more states
The perks program includes an extra 10% off sale items and rotating deals for members of Amazon's $119-a-year Prime membership. It's worth noting that the Prime member savings are also available in Whole Foods Market 365 stores nationwide.

The Vivoactive 3 Music also boasts Garmin Pay, just as its predecessor did. It's not a hard process, though it's not quite as easy as syncing Apple Music playlists to the Apple Watch, for instance.

"Music can be a huge motivating component of any workout or activity, and we're excited to give our customers the ability to ditch their phones and listen to their favorite songs right from their wrist", said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. This new version, dubbed the Vivoactive 3 Music, is pretty much the same as the original that debuted previous year, but with one key difference: it comes with onboard storage you can fill up with music.

Stay tuned for our full review of the device.
